On May 16, 2007, Mark Rothko’s White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose), sold for the record hammer price of $72.84 Million (U.S.). No contemporary artist has managed to meet this price since.[1] Despite a number of blockbuster exhibitions, including a retrospective at the Tate Modern in 2011, this is an artist who seems to have somewhat slipped off the radar.
